Timecop vs Robocop vs Universal Soldier anyone?

PODCAST HERE!

Weezer - Buddy Holly
If they can
fuse Weezer into a Happy Days repeat, then surely Rocky vs Rambo is on. IT'S ON! YEAH!

Modest Mouse - Float On
Click here to see Modest Mouse soundly mocked. Apparently the singer's fat, and this leaves him ripe for parody. However, the 'trivia' section is genius.

The White Stripes - You Don’t Know What Love Is

Brother and sister? Possibly. Bit weird? I'd say so.

The Go! Team - Grip like a Vice
The Go! Team will be bringing their happy dancing music to Stirling, Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness. Have they pissed off all the real Scottish towns? STIRLING?

Owls - Everyone is My Friend
These are your new favourite bands. Go to them.

Ian Brown - Sister Rose
An American requested some Ian Brown. I don't even like Ian Brown. That's how dedicated I am to international diplomacy.

Amplive/Radiohead/Del tha Funky Homosapien - Video Tapez
From Rainy_Dayz, the album of remixes, all of which were originally inspired by In Rainbows. You can
download the whole LP free, and even get cover art . That's "dope".

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Rattlesnakes
Peter loves these guys. However, Lloyd seems to have undergone a remarkable transformation, from Simon Le Bon to Beowulf.

Hot Club de Paris - You Can Call Me Al
From 'mylynda' on youtube: "For those of you who are not old enough to know, I will admit that I am. The funny thing is the taller guy is a commedian actor (Chevy Chase). The little guy (Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkle) actually does or can play those instruments and is the one singing. So little guy gets him lime light taken away by the actor who contributes nothing but acting. I hope I got all that right.
This is funny". I'm still not convinced.

Peter’s Life Lesson #3
Talking Heads - Burning Down the House
Look at
this guy's face. That's who you'll be if you don't heed Peter's advice. He isn't disfigured or anything. He's just an idiot.

Go to
the Hype Machine if you want some of the songs from the show. Or find some of your own, download the podcast, and make your own show at home. Which would be fun.

Tomorrow's show-sticle...

Hey there buddy!

Tomorrow (Tuesday the 19th) sees show 3 of the current run of The Peter Simpson Show.

2:30 kick-off tomorrow. Should be good. Will be talking about one of my favourite bands from the '80's, taking a look at a hyper-violent new release at the cinema, and playing some funky beats*.

http://www.freshair.org.uk

PS Feel free to get in touch, LIVE, from half 2 tomorrow. Hit an email off to studio@freshair.org.uk - you know it's a good idea.

*Beats not guaranteed funky. Peter Simpson cannot take responsibility for damage caused by lack of beat funkiness.

12/02 tracklisting...

Belle and Sebastian - Funny Little Frog Live MP3
Glaswegian loveliness. Never thought you'd hear that phrase did you? Hehe, hehehe, hahaha, HAHAHA! Me so hiwawious!

American Football - Never Meant MP3
One of these days I'm gonna run out of Kinsella Brothers emo-rock to play on this show. But it's not gonna be any time soon. Be converted to its goodness...

Morrissey - That's How People Grow Up Jools Holland-a-rific MP3
This song in review, in under 10 words;
Cowbell? Possibly. Any good? Not really. Grumpy? Most definitely.

Vampire Weekend - Campus MP3
Vampire Weekend, basically, are the 21st Century's answer to the question "What if Peter Gabriel spliced himself with an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue and a Fender Telecaster?" Bloggists liked them, not some of them don't. It's all politics really...

Michael Cera and Ellen Page - Anyone Else But You (originally performed by the Moldy Peaches) Juno-tastic MP3
Get the Juno review on shiny MP3 in the post 'neath this one. And then listen to this song. And cry at the sheer sweetness of it. Cry. I compell you!

A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It? MP3
I honestly thought this song featured the line "...something-something like a cut of fresh ham." Turns out it does not. I was disappointed.

Eels - I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (Originally performed by Prince) Prince-o-centric MP3 (You have to click thru for this one I'm afraid)
Ah the Eels, wild boys. They wanted to run a 1 second ad during the Super Bowl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uNNq8Q6sWE). They were denied. That's about that.

REM - I'm Gonna DJ (Live) Live (obv'z LOL) MP3
REM's new album is to feature more up-tempo songs like this one. Apparently. Sounds good.

Bloc Party/MSTRKRFT - 2 More Years (MSTRKRFT Remix)MP3
Remix, or just a bit of extra drumming? You decide.

Otis Redding - Sitting on the Dock of the Bay MP3
Otis Redding, dead for 30 years, flogging cars for overly safe people. What a damn shame. Give the man a Ferrari to sing along to or something! Or a go-kart with machine guns on it! The good adverts and accompanying chat will be up shortly.

of Montreal - If I faltered Slightly Twice MP3
I only played half the song, so it's only getting half a blo...

Peter's Life Lesson #2
Beck - Where It's At
Collabora-tasty MP3
He's got two turntables and a microphone. Doesn't have a fucking clue what he's saying half the time though... (http://stereogum.com/archives/theres-a-reason-you-cant-make-sense-of-becks-lyric_008037.html)

New year, new shit...

Hello bloggists.

2nd show of new year on Tuesday, and I've jazzed up the blog. It now features;

A snazzy new colour scheme!

A bitchin' selection of downloadable MP3s, courtesy of everyone's favourite music blog aggregator the Hype Machine!

And a HOTTT selection of music, film and entertainment news, direct from my favourite music blog Stereogum, the ubiquitous-in-their-field NME & Empire, and the BBC news entertainment department!

Cool cool, I'm sure you'll agree. Now you never need go on another internet site again. True story.

Listen up on Tuesday at 2:30, where I'll be running the rule over Juno, playing some lovely music, and soliciting e-mails about Valentine's Day in all its weird glory.

YEAH!

Kanye West & Chris Martin – Homecoming
OH CHRIST! EGO! EGO! For a 1st song back, I couldn't have got 2 people who think more of themselves. And between you and me, I'm not convinced that Kanye really needs those glasses...

Jack Johnson – Middle Man
Everybody's favourite ex-surfer-cum-acoustic-songmeister has a new album out (it's called Sleep Through the Static) . I haven't heard it. I have heard the debut though, so that's why I played this one.

Van Halen – Panama
Partly inspired by the sweltering heat in the studio, but mostly played because it rocks. It doesn't have a damn thing to do with the leader of the country of the title. Find out about him here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Noriega)

I Was A Cub Scout – Pink Squares
The youngest member of IWACS drunkenly tried to bonk a Fresh Air DJ once. They told me so. Also, they occasionally don't turn up to gigs, and don't give any explanation (see the whole Minus the Bear-support situation). IWACS, not getting the best write up from Fresh Air at the moment. They're playing Cab Vol on the 10th, so go down and ask them just what their game is.

Peter Loves... Curb Your Enthusiasm
Frolic (Curb Your Enthusiasm theme)- Luciano Michelini

Pedro the Lion - A Mind of her own
Another band off Jade Tree (http://www.jadetree.com/bands/artist/pedro_the_lion) that I like. Jade Tree = Peter's favourites. MP3

Lightspeed Champion – Dry Lips
Ex-Test Icicles front-man, with beard and glasses. True story.

Blitzen Trapper – Summertwin
Good name. Whistling. Hoorah!

Thom Yorke – Reckoner (Live and Acoustic)
Acoustic version of the track off the new album. Taken from Jonaffan Woss' Radio 2 show. MP3

Peter Simpson’s Lessons for an easy life - Always back your data up, as shown by... Chris Walla – Sing Again

Guitarist from low-fi indie/emo/pop munchkins Death Cab for Cutie's first solo single. Got fiddled with by the man (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1572048/20071016/death_cab_for_cutie.jhtml). Horrible stuff. Hmmm...MP3

2008, an apology, and Hugh Fearnly-Wearnly

Hello all. It's 2008. and I'll hopefully be back on the radio, bothering you all to listen again in February. Bitchin'

Just a few things for now;

Apologies to Carolyn Mearns, indie rockers the Futureheads, and all the residents and those associated with Sunderland, the surrounding area, and ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane, for incorrectly stating that said 'Heads were from Sheffield. Turns out they are not. Relevant entries have been changed, and I shan't do it again. On the plus side, good to see I have people reading this. Bitchin'

Also, my favourite telly of the year so far - Hugh's Chicken Run on Channel 4. It could have ended up as a horrible mess of "no, you'll bloody well eat this free range chicken you 'orrible slag" like the whole of Jamie's School Dinners, but in the end it came out nicely. We learned;

a) Intensive chicken farming is grim, but the mechanics are to be admired
b) Free Range chickens are good, but they get the cold a lot more often
c) Weakness in chickens WILL NOT BE TOLERATED - and this can be hard to take if, like HF-W, you are used to being lovely to animals
d) Some people just can't afford free range chicken, and HF-W accepts this, thus making him a benevolent kind of food overlord.
e) Most importantly, if you help them out, anyone can rear chickens. It looks like a right larf.

Basically, this was information-packed, had enough emotion to keep you caring, had enough swearing to remind you this was Channel 4, the home of TOUGH cooks, and was genuinely interesting. Plus it had hilarious talking heads from the townspeople that Hugh was trying to make free-range, saying things like "e'll never make me eat a 'appy chicken, e's a con-maan". See, even some comic relief...
